Sad News: Customs officer shot dead at Seme border

Via Vanguard---

LAGOS — GUNMEN, Saturday, shot and killed a
Customs officer, Mr Musa Bala, a Senior
Inspector of Customs, at the Seme border
Command of the Nigeria Customs Service.

Confirming the development, spokesman of the
command, Mr. Ernest Ollotah, said the incident
came as a shock to the command, adding that
the remains of the officer had been deposited at
the Badagry General Hospital mortuary.

Ollotah told Vanguard that the command was
still awaiting the report of the incident from the
Police as the matter was being investigated.
The incident, according to Ollotah, took place at
about 5 a.m, a few metres from Customs
Barracks in Seme.

He said the command would not jump into
conclusion over the incident until the Police
report was ready, adding that the family of the
deceased officer had been notified, a development that necessitated a visit to the command by the deceased's brother.

The command's spokesman also told Vanguard
that the late officer hailed from Adamawa State
and will be buried after investigation into his
death.

Customs officers in the Seme axis have come
under serious attacks in recent times. The death
of Musa is about the second this year as another
officer was shot dead by one of his colleagues
few weeks ago.

Sad News: Chinua Achebe is dead!

Professor Chinua Achebe, has died. The world's celebrated writer and author died in the US on Thursday night.

Information gathered shows that the author of world's acclaimed best selling book 'Things Fall Apart' died in a hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, USA.

Until his death, he was aged 82, having been
born on November 16, 1930.

His last book, There Was A Country: A Personal
History of Biafra, has generated a lot of
controversies.

Well no to much talk, Here is an official statement from him-

To whom it may concern:
I, Jesse Garba Abaga (also known as "Jesse
Jagz") an artist formerly signed to Chocolate
City Music label hereby wishes to notify my
fans and the general public about my
voluntary exit from the label.
After my initial two year contractual
agreement with Chocolate City, I do not wish
to renew my contract with them and as such
have proceeded to continue my music career
with my new team at Jesse Jagz Nation. I still
maintain a cordial relationship with the
management of Chocolate City and my former
label mates and I wish them the best in all
their future endeavors. Any further information

News: Popular Indian actor Sanjay Dutt sentenced to five years in prison

A court in India today Thursday March 21st
sentenced Bollywood top actor and host of India's
version of the Big Brother reality-television
franchise, Sanjay Dutt, to five years in jail for the
illegal possession of firearms in a case connected
to a series of bomb blasts that ripped through
Mumbai and were one of the deadliest terror
attacks in the country.

Mr. Dutt was sentenced to six years in prison in
2007 for illegal possession of weapons that were
supplied to him by men subsequently convicted in
the bombing.

That court cleared Mr. Dutt of involvement with the bombing plot. He has denied involvement with the attacks and said he asked for the guns to protect his family.

He appealed the decision at the Supreme Court and
was let out on bail in 2007. He has remained at
liberty since then until today. The court reduced his
sentence to five years but said the circumstances
and nature of offense was so serious that Mr. Dutt
cannot be released on probation. Mr. Dutt, 53 years
old, already has spent a cumulative 18 months in
jail on related charges
.
Mr. Dutt will have to surrender within four weeks to
serve the sentence, the court said.

R Kelly's SA shows postpone

Cape Town - R Kelly fans in SA will have to wait
until August to see the RnB crooner, reports the
Mail & Guardian.

Kelly was due to perform in Johannesburg on 21
March and in Durban on 23 March.

However, according to the newspaper's report,
local promoter AfroPulse Entertainment requires
more time to coordinate logistics.

The Single Ladies Tour will now only reach local
shores on 8 and 10 August 2013.

Ticket holders will be granted a refund should
they not wish to attend the concerts in August,
but original tickets will be accepted at the venues
on the new dates.

norm and an unequivocal statement by Sterling Bank that it seeks to identify new opportunities to make a difference in a distinct manner by impacting society through deliberate interventions aimed at encouraging and celebrating unique talents, which abound in Nigeria.According to the bank's group head of strategy & communications, Shina Atilola, participants are to upload their sketched designs on the bank's Facebook page. The creators of the top 10 designs will be given some amount of money to produce their designs. The designs so brought to life will be showcased at the final event billed for April 20, 2013 at the University of Lagos Main Auditorium.The top three finalists will get N1, 000,000.00, N500, 000.00, and N250, 000.00, respectively. The state government released the photo showing Mr. Idibia looking on as the commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah presenting the car keys to Annie Macauley–Idibia in the presence of her husband and a friend, Jackson Udom.

The governor had come under heavy criticism after he, on Friday, announced a gift of two brand new Toyota Prado SUVs to Tuface and his wife. He also reportedly promised to bankroll an all-expense paid trip for 29 delegates from the state to attend the white wedding of the couple fixed for Dubai, the United Arab Emirate on March 23.

Latin American Idol Winner Martha Heredia Arrested For Smuggling Heroin

Latin American Idol winner Martha Heredia has been arrested after attempting to smuggle heroin onto an airplane bound for New York. Heredia was caught in the Dominican Republic with 2.9 pounds (1.3 kilograms) of heroin stuffed into her platform shoes which were inside of her suitcase.

Prosecutor Luisa Liranzo said Heredia does not yet have an attorney. If found guilty, she could face more than 10 years in prison.

Osaze Odemwingie Prefers to talk about Egusi soup, Pounded yam, Rice and Plantain to Football

Days after former Nigeria defender, Taribo West, slammed West Brom forward, Osaze Odemwingie, for his comments on the state of the country’s ex-internationals, Osaze has again responded to Taribo on twitter.


It would be recalled that Taribo slammed Osaze for his comments on the state of the country’s ex-internationals, saying the player should focus on his career rather than using social network site, Twitter, to ‘abuse’ his elders.

Osaze had last week twitted that football administrators had failed to “treat former internationals right” citing late striker Rashidi Yekini, Femi Opabunmi and Taribo as examples.
