CAF announces top three for African Player of the Year

The confederation of African Football announces the top three candidates for this year‘s African player of the year.

Reigning footballer of the year, Ivory coast and Manchester city Midfielder Yaya Toure is joined by fellow Ivorian and national team Captain, Didier Drogba and The Cameroonian midfielder Alexander song.

The winner will be announced later this month on 20th December at the Awards Gala in Accra, Ghana.

Nigeria is 35th most corrupt nation –TI

THE global corruption watchdog, Transparency International, has ranked Nigeria as the 35th most corrupt nation in the world.

The Corruption Perception Index 2012 released on Wednesday revealed that Nigeria scored 27 out of a maximum 100 marks to clinch the 139th position out of the 176 countries surveyed for the report.

Nigeria, sharing the position with Azerbaijan, Kenya, Nepal and Pakistan, is said to have remained entrenched in corruption without making much progress to fight the menace.

 While countries such as Togo, Mali, Niger and Benin fared better, experts decried Nigeria’s poor performance in stamping corruption out.

 Nigeria placed 143rd in the 2011 rankings, making it the 39th most corrupt country but experts said it was difficult to determine whether the country had improved in the ranking this year.

This, they said, was because 182, six more than this year’s, were ranked in 2011.

Sad News: Enebeli Elebuwa is dead

Nollywood actor, Enebeli Elebuwa passed away in the early hours of today, Wednesday, December 5 , 2012.
The PRO of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Frank Dallas, described the veteran actor as a friend, brother and veteran that will be greatly missed by both colleagues and the Nollywood community as a whole.

Elebuwa, 65, had been battling with an undisclosed illness for over a year and was reported to be responding to treatment in an India hospital, where he was being treated until the sad announcement.

Star Boy Wizkid, Eva, Ajebutter 22, Solidstar, Tillaman & Shaydee Set for COPA Lagos 2012 Opening Day – Friday December 14th, 2012

Organisers of the upcoming Beach Soccer tournament, Copa Lagos 2012, have revealed that Wizkid will be headlining the Copa Lagos concert on the opening day. The tournament which is being sponsored by First City Monument Bank (FCMB) begins on Friday December 14th, 2012. It will include a mixture of Beach Soccer, Concerts, Parties and a fashion show over a 3 day period.

Wizkid has an army of loyal fans, on Twitter alone he is followed by over 400,000 people they will no doubt be looking to show their support by seeing him perform live at Copa Lagos. The EME star is no stranger to Copa Lagos he was one of the leading acts last year for the maiden edition. He thrilled thousands of Copa Lagos fans last year with his stunning performance on the beach. His presence this year will be eagerly anticipated, the announcement today will make tickets for the opening day a must have.

Speaking about Copa Lagos, Wizkid revealed, “I am definitely looking forward to Copa this year, because from my experience last year definitely this year is going to be bigger and much, much better. I am really, really looking forward to performing in front of my fans.”

Other performers on the opening day include Eva, Ajebutter 22, Solidstar, Tillaman, Shaydee and others. Copa Lagos gets underway from the 14th to 16th December this year. Nigeria is the defending Champion and will take on, Lebanon, Argentina and six times European Champions Portugal at Eko Atlantic.
