TWO suspected highway robbers were killed by officers of the Ogun State Police Command on Saturday around Area J4 on the Sagamu- Ore-Benin Expressway.
This was contained in a statement made available to the NigerianTribune by the Command's Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, in Abeokuta on Monday.
Adejobi said policemen attached to Ogbere division of the command were on highway patrol when the armed bandits engaged them in a gun duel that lasted for twenty minutes.
The bandits were said to have earlier hijacked a bus marked DELTA XC 291 EFR and held the passengers hostage before dispossessing them of their valuables.
The passengers, according to the statement were freed unhurt by the police after combing the area.
Adejobi said two of the robbers were found unconscious in the bush with bullet wounds. They were said to have given up the ghost on the way to the hospital.
In a related development, the anti robbery policemen attached to the state CID, Eleweran, Abeokuta on Sunday night intercepteda robbery gang of five armed men at Papalanto along Ewekoro area of Ogun State.
Two of the suspects were arrested with four cartridges, a gun and a motorcycle with registration number FKJ 596 QA while other members of the gang escaped with bullet wounds.
The command appealed to the general public, particularly medical practitioners, to hand over any person with bullet woundsto the police.
