Sokoto State governor, Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko, has said the report of oil discovery in the Sahel Savannah of Sokoto State was not a fluke, adding that the state had done everything possible to prepare the oil fields for exploration.
Wamakko said while oil was discovered in a good quantity in Sokoto, the process of exploration would be done by the Federal Government, according to the constitution of Nigeria, which he said reserved the right of mineral exploration in any part of the country to the government.
There has been palpable excitement in the North since the governor announced the oil discovery, which signals a possibility that Sokoto will soon join the league of oil producing states.
The governor, however said the state government was at the moment preparing necessary documentation on the discovery for the formal notification of the Federal Government on the next steps to take.
"We are doing everything possible to ensure that we put all in place to access what we have confirmed so far," he stated.
