A pastor in Ekete waterside in Warri, Delta State has
set himself ablaze on the popular Udu Bridge near
the oil-rich city.
The pastor, PUNCH Metro learnt, had been
complaining about family problems in recent time.
A source said on Wednesday that the pastor, who
drove himself to the bridge, alighted from his car,
took a 20-litre jerrycan of fuel from the booth, and
set himself ablaze under the bridge.
It was learnt that before help could come his way,
Obaleme, who was married and had children, died on
the spot.
Meanwhile, a middle-aged carpenter resident in
Asaba, the state capital, whose name could not be
immediately ascertained, has reportedly committed
suicide by jumping into the river that passes through
Anwai area.
The carpenter, a native of Abbi, Kwale, reportedly had
a disagreement with one of his lovers.
An eyewitness said the carpenter was seen on top of
the bridge in Asaba before he jumped into the river.
It was gathered that his corpse had yet to be
recovered.
A source said the carpenter, suspected to be
impotent, had been having problems with women in
his attempts to get married.
When contacted, the police spokesman in the state,
Charles Muka, said he had yet to confirm the two
incidents. He promised to get back to our
correspondent.
