President Goodluck Jonathan has appointed Dr.
Doyin Okupe as the Senior Special Assistant on
Public Affairs. National Mirror learn Okupe was
appointed on Wednesday and resumed work at
the Presidential Villa yesterday. The new
presidential aide confirmed his appointment to
National Mirror last night.
"I have resumed on Thursday as the Senior Special
Assistant to the President on Public Affairs," he said.
Okupe told National Mirror that his job schedule
entails deepening the relationship between the
Presidency and the public.
"My duty is to engage the public, media and civil
societies on matters and issues that are current and
affect the Presidency.
I will also provide avenue for proper dissemination of
information," Okupe said.
A presidential source said the appointment was done
to change the poor public perception of the
President, especially through poor handling of his
media by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity,
Dr. Reuben Abati.
President Jonathan has always been at the receiving
end in the media from the opposition.
Okupe was the spokesman of former President
Olusegun Obasanjo during his first term. He is a
