Don’t abuse unionism, Lagos council tells NULGE

Chairman, Yaba Local Council Development Area, Lagos State, Mr. Olajide Jimoh, has asked National Union of Local Government Employees in the state to use the weapon of trade unionism judiciously to achieve desired results.
Jimoh made the call while receiving the new Lagos NULGE executive led by Mr. Lasisi Akinsanya in his office, according to a statement by his Personal Secretary, Olusola Adebowale, on Monday.
The chairman said collaboration, consultation and confrontation were the weapons of trade unionism which were three pertinent ways of achieving success.
Jimoh said, “As president, the union must ensure that it collaborates with the government where necessary.
“Consultation needs to be made; such avenue must be well utilised to avoid any rancour with the employers.’’
He urged the union to always be supportive of the government policies and its implementation to achieve good results.
He congratulated NULGE new executives for a well deserved victory, assuring them of his administration’s support.
On his part, Akinsanya advised the entire NULGE staff to be serious and punctual at work.
“All NULGE staff must be punctual, honest and sincere in the discharge of their duties. It is when we all work assiduously that what is due to us will be given,” he said
Akinsanya lauded the achievements of Jimoh so far and promised the union’s collaboration with the council and state government to move the state forward.
