Police kill 4 suspected robbers, arrest 1 in Nasarawa

Lafia - The Police in Nasarawa State on Saturday killed four armed robbery suspects that had been terrorising motorists plying the Abuja-Keffi-Akwanga road.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Abayomi Akeremale, told t reporters in an interview, that the police over-powered the hoodlums and killed four of them during an exchange of fire.

He said the police got wind of the robbers’ presence on the road through a distress call.

Akeremale said that one of the suspects had been arrested and was in police custody in Lafia, while two were at large.

The commissioner said machinery had been set in motion to arrest other members of the gang.

“The suspect has provided useful information about the whereabouts of the others.”

He said the police had been monitoring the Keffi-Abuja road following various complaints by motorists.


“We have been receiving a lot of reports and complaints from motorists and the State House of Assembly about the men of the underworld terrorising innocent citizens along Abuja-Keffi-Akwanga road.”

Akeremale said the command had deployed additional patrol teams in order to check crime in the area and the state in general.

He thanked the government for providing the command with logistics such as patrol vehicles in order to curtail crime in the state.

Akeremale appealed to the people to give useful information to the police and other security agencies that would lead to the arrest of suspects in the area.

He said that the police were on a 24-hour patrol in the state, adding: “there will be no hiding place for criminals in the state.’’ (NAN)
