Ondo LG boss dies in auto crash
The Caretaker Committee Chairman of the Akoko South-West Local Government Area of Ondo State, Mrs. Opeyemi Adefarati, died in an auto accident on the Owo-Ikare Expressway on Thursday night. The Public Relations Officer of the state Police Command, Mr. Aremu Adeniran, who confirmed the incident to our correspondent in Akure on Friday, said the incident occurred around 8.25 pm at Iwaro-Oka junction on the highway. Adeniran said the accident happened when the driver of a trailer with registration number ABJ 413 XA, lost control while descending the Oke Maria hill and ran into the Toyota Camry with registration number GG268 EKY, which conveyed Adefarati. He said seven people were involved in the accident, but two of them, including the council boss, lost their lives immediately. He said three others who sustained serious injuries including her police orderly, were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Owo for emergency medical attention. The police spokesperson said the trailer had knocked down and killed one person shortly before it ran into the car. He said the corpses of Adefarati and that of the yet-to-be-identified person had been deposited at the General Hospital in Ikare. Our correspondent learnt that officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Nigeria Police Force carried out the rescue operation.
